Gordon Legal Senior Partner, Peter Gordon has welcomed the ALP’s promise to establish a Senate Inquiry to investigate a potential cluster of cancers on the Bellarine Peninsula.
Gordon Legal has been working with residents of the Bellarine Peninsula following the deaths of young people from cancer which could be linked to the use of organochlorine pesticides and other chemicals heavily used by farmers on the Bellarine Peninsula.
One connection being explored is the site of the Bellarine Secondary College in Drysdale that was once a potato farm.
Gordon Legal’s Peter Gordon said the inquiry is needed to give bereaved families answers they deserve.
“I have seen the trauma suffered by families who have lost loved ones in the prime of their lives,” Mr Gordon said.
“A Senate Inquiry is a key step to giving families the facts and hopefully providing some relief for people who are grieving and for the broader community.”
Gordon Legal is investigating claims for a number of families on the Bellarine Peninsula.
“People will be grateful that their health concerns have become a Federal priority. The announcement by Federal Labor is a breakthrough in providing information and taking seriously the concerns of this community,” Mr Gordon said.
“A full investigation into all aspects of the cancer rates in this region is overdue, families deserve to know the truth.”
